St. John's Lutheran Church ELCA

Cross Training
(aka Confirmation classes)
Cross Training is a process by which we strive to encourage, nurture and strengthen a life-style of discipleship in the Lord Jesus Christ among our youth. Cross Training is also a partnership with families to encourage youth to grow in their relationship with Christ and to become active in living out their faith through the life and ministry of this congregation.

It is our hope that each year of a student's journey can help them to grow closer in faith to our Lord, and to more fully understand what it means to be a member of the family of God. During their journey there is a path of learning that we will use to guide each student.

Cross Training classes are held Wednesday evenings September - May at 6:30 pm.
Year 1 ~ Sixth Grade study the Old Testament in depth in order to learn about God and His people.

Year 2 ~ Seventh Grade study the New Testament in depth in order to learn about God's love demonstrated through the life of Jesus and the early Church.

Year 3 ~ Eighth Grade study the basic teachings of the Christian faith from Luther's Small Catechism: The Ten Commandments, the Apostle's Creed, the Lord's Prayer, the Sacraments, and how they connect to our lives today.

Year 4 ~ Ninth Grade focus on living as disciples. Students will learn discipleship skills that help us to live out our faith and discuss life issues and how our faith helps to inform our values and the choices that we make.

Year 5 ~ Tenth Grade is based on conversations with an adult mentor from the congregation. Students will meet monthly with their mentor and once a month as a class.

Affirmation of Baptism After completing the five year Cross Training program, students who are active in the church (that is worshipping on a regular basis, serving, and participating in church events) and desire to Affirm their Baptism will write a faith paper and go through an interview with the pastor.
